Renwick Gallery
Century-old museum next to the White House, renovated and modernized on schedule and within 1 percent of our original estimate.
OCMI provided a series of cost estimating and scheduling services for the $20 million major renovations of the Smithsonian’s historic Renwick Gallery.
Renovations of the 46,000-SF masonry structure included a nearly complete replacement of the mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and lighting systems. OCMI’s services included estimates and schedules at pre-design/basis of design, schematic, design development, and the 65%, 95%, and 100% construction document phases. We also assisted with pricing and identifying multiple alternatives of varying scope, and conducted market studies and outreach to the local construction industry for pricing feasibility. Unique project considerations included location (the museum is adjacent to The White House), moratorium planning (area closures), as well as other extensive planning requirements.
Because of OCMI’s efforts, the project was bid less than a 1 percent variance from our estimate, and the CPM construction schedule was adopted and confirmed.
