The City of Sacramento’s SAFE Credit Union Convention Center
Named APWA’s 2021 Project of the Year
The City of Sacramento’s SAFE Credit Union Convention Center was named American Public Works Association’s (APWA) 2021 Project of the Year. Built out from the old convention center and the first expansion since 1996, the new $254 million center allows the city to maximize the use of the building and put Sacramento back on the map.
In addition to being delivered during a worldwide pandemic, the project faced multiple other challenges including material and manpower limitations, coordination of outside vendors, and the need for reliance on new technologies and virtual inspections.
Through the collaborative efforts of a great team, the project overcame these obstacles and was delivered before any scheduled events and without any shutdowns. OCMI’s Senior Project Manager, Randy Stewart, believes collaboration was the biggest outcome of the project and stated that “the structure and the whole development is going to be a great success for the City of Sacramento. It’s going to bring people downtown…it’s going to be a winner all the way.”
Congratulations to the City of Sacramento and our incredible partners: Populous, AECOM Hunt, Twining, and DCM Group.
