Las Vegas Convention Center, West Hall Expansion
Utilizing Lean Construction Principals to Meet Critical Tasks and Deliverables
On behalf of the project’s CMaR, OCMI provided construction scheduling services for Phase 2 of the Las Vegas Convention Center expansion. The schedule was a critical driving factor for this project to be completed within the 26-month timeline. The team utilized lean construction principles collaboratively to gain buy-in and personal commitments on critical tasks and deliverables. Utilizing Last Planner System®, OCMI was a key contributor in tying these tasks into the schedule updates. OCMI’s range of services on this contract included:
- Ongoing baseline schedule development
- Weekly progress reporting
- Monthly progress reporting
- Attendance at various standing meetings, including attendance during pull planning
- Fragnet generation
- Time impact analysis generation
Construction began in 2019 on the $935M expansion and was completed on schedule in 2021. The convention center expansion adds 1.4M SF to the current facility and approximately 600,000 SF of new, leasable exhibit space. It features modern design, top-tier technology, and contemporary meeting and working spaces. The owner worked with a team of five architects, combining local, national, and international experience to create a vision that captures the Las Vegas experience. With the expansion, the LVCVA aims to continue to make Las Vegas the number one trade show destination in North America.
