Students get a first-hand experience at San Diego State University

6-1-17 San Diego, California: Students of the NewSchool of Architecture + Design were given a tour of San Diego State University’s Engineering and Interdisciplinary Sciences Building, where construction is in full swing. The state-of-the-art 90,000 SF lab building will include 11,500 SF of teaching labs and 17 new research labs with scientific and industrial machines, including magnetic resonance imaging, and a modular setup that will allow scientists and engineers to easily relocate their resources to be closer to potential collaborators.

The tour was given by O’Connor Construction Management’s (OCMI) on-site managers Al Kirsininkas and Duc Vu. The students were able to see and apply the skills they are learning in class and understand how it occurs in real life construction. Dan Luckhardt, the professor of the class and MEP Senior Estimator at OCMI, stated: “…this was one of the best hands-on learning experience the students had seen…!”

A special thanks to Project Executive Matt Gerard and Project Engineer Sean Relph of Clark Construction for making this educational tour possible. This is a Design Build project with Clark Construction and AC Martin & Partners. The Interdisciplinary Sciences Building will open its doors at the end of 2017!
